About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Transport Officer (Projects & Delivery) to join the Passenger Transport Projects Team at Surrey County Council. This permanent role offers the opportunity to work on key programmes that improve public transport infrastructure across Surrey, including the Surrey Transport Plan, Greener Futures programme, and Bus Service Improvement Plan. You will lead the development and delivery of passenger transport improvement schemes, manage major programmes, and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including bus operators and internal teams. This role allows you to directly influence the accessibility, quality, and sustainability of public transport, supporting Surrey’s commitment to greener and more inclusive travel.
As part of a supportive and innovative team, you will contribute expert technical advice, help shape long-term transport planning, and work on visible projects that benefit residents and the environment. The Passenger Transport Projects Team manages Surrey’s extensive public transport infrastructure, including approximately 7,000 bus stops, 1,100 bus shelters, and 600 real-time displays.

Local Government Reorganisation
Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, transitioning to two new unitary councils in April 2027. If employed by Surrey on 1st April 2027, your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of the new organisations, supporting local devolution and greater community powers.
Experience
- Significant experience working with public transport providers and delivering transport or infrastructure schemes
- Strong project management experience with a proven track record of successful delivery
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policy, and technical standards
