About the Role

We are seeking two exceptional and highly motivated Service Managers to lead our integrated Environmental Operations, a critical 24/7 service responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and environmental quality of our streets, public spaces, and housing estates.
These pivotal roles involve ultimate responsibility for cleansing, waste and recycling collections, evening operations, markets management, graffiti removal, and gully cleansing to prevent flooding. You will manage up to 150 frontline staff, 6 Supervisors, and directly oversee the Assistant Service Manager while driving the strategic vision for the service.
You will lead with a focus on operational excellence, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, contractual compliance, and waste enforcement. You will also manage service-related complaints, investigate root causes, implement corrective measures, and engage with residents and local councillors.
This is a challenging leadership role requiring flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to delivering a national benchmark service for Hackney’s residents, businesses, and visitors.
Experience
- Proven track record as a Service Manager within the Waste Industry or Environmental Sector, ideally in the public sector
- Experience managing large frontline teams and complex operational services
- Demonstrable ability to strategically plan, lead, and motivate operational workforces
