About the Role
The Isle of Wight Council is seeking a bold and visionary leader to take on a pivotal role in shaping the Island's environmental future. As Strategic Manager for Waste & Environment, you will lead two dynamic teams—Waste & Public Realm, and Climate, Coast & Environment—integrating operational delivery, strategic planning, and contract management to advance the council's environmental priorities. Your responsibilities will include overseeing coastal protection and beach management, delivering the Climate, Biosphere and Sustainability strategy, and acting as deputy Authority Representative for the major Waste Contract. You will manage high-value partnerships including NHS waste and energy services and lead large-scale projects requiring both technical expertise and political sensitivity. This role demands strong leadership, the ability to influence and negotiate, and a commitment to driving sustainable change across a geographically unique and environmentally ambitious landscape. You will engage with elected members and stakeholders across sectors, navigating a political environment to build trusted relationships and deliver transformative public service innovation. Experience
Proven professional knowledge in waste and environmental services with a strong track record of leadership. Experience managing complex projects, contracts, and partnerships in a public sector or similar environment. Comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels within a political context.

Qualifications
