About the Role
We are excited to announce a brand new position within our Environment & Innovation team as a Strategic Mapping Technical Specialist – Biodiversity & Habitats. Joining the rapidly growing Environment Strategy Team, this role offers a great opportunity to support the development and technical delivery of our new Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Strategy. The Environment & Innovation team leads Southern Water’s commitment to enhancing and protecting the environment by deploying innovative solutions and working closely with customers and stakeholders. Currently managing a £50 million portfolio that will expand to over £2 billion in the next 10 years, this fast-paced team is expanding to deliver a larger programme of sustainable and innovative solutions.

The role will support the BNG Strategy Lead to increase biodiversity across Southern Water’s operating region by leveraging BNG and communicating the emerging strategy. Key responsibilities include setting up project management infrastructure, developing and managing GIS-based systems, and establishing reporting mechanisms to effectively measure, record, manage, and monitor the delivery of BNG and wider habitat creation opportunities across the business.

This role will support the strategic delivery of BNG by implementing new geospatial systems and using project management approaches to research, liaise, and develop a pipeline of BNG projects, partnership opportunities, and commercial ventures. The post holder will manage and maintain databases, GIS systems, and reporting tools to enable delivery of wider benefits for people and nature. Communication of the BNG strategy both internally and externally will be a key aspect of the role.

Joining Southern Water means becoming part of a team dedicated to career progression, training, and development opportunities, with a strong focus on customers and the environment.
