About the Borough
The London Borough of Sutton is situated less than 30 minutes by train from Central London, with direct connections to London Victoria and London Bridge. Located in zone 5 with excellent transport links, Sutton boasts award-winning parks and open spaces, low crime rates, affordable housing, and great schools. The borough enjoys high levels of resident engagement and satisfaction, providing quality services while addressing financial challenges and involving residents in key issues and local developments. Sutton is continuously investing in the health, wellbeing, and education of its residents and future generations, as outlined in the "Ambitious for Sutton" corporate plan. Home to the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research, Sutton is developing the London Cancer Hub, aiming to become the world’s leading life-science district specializing in cancer research and treatment. This vision will create around 13,000 jobs and contribute £1.2bn annually to the UK economy, fostering a vibrant community of scientists, doctors, and innovative companies to benefit cancer patients and drive economic growth. With ongoing regeneration including new homes and schools, Sutton is committed to working closely with residents and vulnerable groups to support independence and balance support with independent living. The Council plays a leading role within the South London Partnership, focusing on strategic growth, regeneration, and investment. Sutton aims to shape the borough’s future to make it a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

About the Role
This role supports the Council’s environmental strategy and the decarbonisation of its estate. As the Council’s dedicated Energy Officer, you will provide expert advice to the Council and all departments. Responsibilities include managing the purchase, coordination, and administration of the Council’s gas, electric, and water contracts. You will evaluate energy and water usage within the Council, develop policies and actions to minimise consumption, and oversee a programme of low carbon capital funding schemes. You will support colleagues in delivering capital projects across operational, leisure, and school portfolios, maximising available funding such as the Climate Capital Fund and Green Buildings Fund to reduce operational emissions.

About Us
This role is part of the Facilities Management (FM) team, which has recently undergone significant transformation, including integrating energy management into its delivery. The FM Service supports approximately 50 corporate Council buildings, providing services such as FM Helpdesk, caretaking, post, cleaning, pest control, security, planned preventative maintenance, and reactive repairs. The team consists of 15 staff members dedicated to maintaining these buildings and services. This is a challenging and rewarding time as the FM Service implements a new operating model aligned with the wider organisation’s goals.
