About the Role
This role supports the Council's environmental strategy and the decarbonisation of its estate. As the Council's dedicated Energy Officer, you will provide expert advice to all departments, manage the purchase and coordination of gas, electric and water contracts, and evaluate energy and water usage. You will devise policies and actions to minimise consumption and meet set targets. The role includes overseeing a programme of low carbon capital funding schemes and supporting colleagues in delivering capital projects across operational, leisure and school portfolios. Maximising the use of available funding such as the Climate Capital Fund and Green Buildings Fund to reduce operational emissions is a key responsibility.

About the Borough
The London Borough of Sutton is located less than 30 minutes by train from Central London, with direct connections to London Victoria and London Bridge. Situated in zone 5, Sutton offers excellent transport links, award-winning parks and open spaces, low crime rates, affordable housing, and great schools. The borough is known for high resident engagement and satisfaction, delivering quality services while addressing financial challenges. Sutton is investing in the health, wellbeing and education of residents and future generations, as outlined in the "Ambitious for Sutton" corporate plan. It is home to the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research, and with the London Cancer Hub development, Sutton aims to become the world’s leading life-science district specialising in cancer research and treatment. This vision is expected to create around 13,000 jobs and contribute £1.2bn annually to the UK economy. Sutton is also focused on regeneration with new homes and schools, working closely with residents and vulnerable groups to balance support and independent living. The Council plays a leading role within the South London Partnership, focusing on strategic growth, regeneration and investment.

About Us
This role is part of the Facilities Management (FM) team, which supports approximately 50 corporate Council buildings. The FM Service includes helpdesk, caretaking, post, cleaning, pest control, security, planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs. The team of 15 staff is undergoing transformation to improve services, with energy management now integrated into the delivery model. This is a challenging and rewarding time as the FM Service evolves to support wider organisational goals.
