About the Role
This role supports the Council's environmental strategy and the decarbonisation of its estate. As the Council's dedicated Energy Officer, you will provide expert advice to all departments, manage the purchase and coordination of gas, electric and water contracts, and evaluate energy and water usage to devise policies and actions that minimise consumption in line with set targets. You will oversee a programme of low carbon capital funding schemes and support colleagues in delivering capital projects across operational, leisure, and school portfolios. Maximising the use of available funding, including the Climate Capital Fund and Green Buildings Fund, to reduce operational emissions is a key responsibility. This position is part of the Facilities Management team, which supports approximately 50 corporate Council buildings and is undergoing significant transformation to improve service delivery and energy management. The role offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the Council’s sustainability goals and wider organisational objectives.

Experience
Proven track record in developing and implementing energy efficiency programmes. Experience in procurement and finance practices, supported by project management skills. Demonstrated ability to evaluate energy and water usage and manage energy contracts.
About you
Strong understanding of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and current developments in energy conservation and sustainability. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build credibility and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong performance management capabilities and sound IT skills. Commitment to high standards of health and safety, equality, and diversity. Flexibility to work outside normal hours when necessary and ability to travel within and around the borough.
Qualifications
Technical or energy-related qualification required. Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
