About the Role
The Sustainability Manager at ASDA plays a pivotal role in developing and delivering the company’s sustainable sourcing strategy across both food and non-food product categories. This includes managing forest risk commodities, driving progress on standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. The role also supports ASDA’s broader nature strategy, collaborating with agriculture teams on water and biodiversity management. A key focus is understanding product supply chains and helping the business implement progressive standards while embedding awareness throughout the supply base.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving ASDA’s sustainable sourcing strategy forward across food and non-food categories
- Collaborating with suppliers, colleagues, and NGOs to track market developments in standards and regulation, ensuring a proactive stance on key issues
- Developing sourcing policies and projects aligned with ASDA’s ESG strategy
- Working closely with suppliers, commercial, and technical teams to embed and deliver standards
- Managing multi-stakeholder compliance projects related to evolving regulations such as forest risk commodities
- Representing ASDA in external groups including suppliers, retailers, government bodies, and NGOs
- Undertaking reporting and KPI tracking across suppliers to support external reporting and disclosure on key sourcing metrics
- Providing technical and specialist advice to internal teams and stakeholders
Experience
- Experience working within a retail or FMCG business in a sustainability, technical, or commercial capacity
- Demonstrable project management experience
- Proven ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely to decision makers at all levels
- Experience influencing and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance sustainability agendas
