About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Test, the Test Environment Manager will coordinate and own the management of test environments supporting multiple application development groups. These environments include isolated subsystems and end-to-end setups, configured using a blend of cloud-based infrastructure and bare metal systems. The role supports a continuous release schedule across diverse platforms including Java, .NET, and dynamic languages running on application servers integrated with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
The Test Environment Manager will collaborate closely with project managers, operations teams, test managers, and senior technical engineering managers to sequence testing projects efficiently on a limited number of environments. This role also involves line management of 2-3 Logistics and Commissioning Engineers.
Key responsibilities include defining and owning the end-to-end test environment strategy, integrating with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and automated deployments. The role requires proactive identification and implementation of environment optimisation initiatives to reduce bottlenecks and improve delivery timelines. Working with IT and Infrastructure teams, the manager will establish a future-proof roadmap incorporating cloud adoption, virtualisation, and containerisation strategies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
Additional duties involve tooling evaluation and integration, capacity and demand management, stakeholder leadership, reporting, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and operational costs. The role also includes conducting environment health audits and risk assessments, and leading a team focused on transitioning from reactive support to proactive environment engineering.
This position encompasses all aspects of the product lifecycle from concept through development, testing, implementation, and operational support, ensuring alignment with Cubic's Quality Management System and Health, Safety, Environment, and Security policies.
