About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Test, the Test Environment Manager will coordinate test environments for multiple application development groups. These environments include isolated subsystems and end-to-end setups, configured using a combination of cloud-based infrastructure and bare metal systems. The role supports a continuous release schedule across multiple groups and platforms including Java, .NET, and various dynamic languages running on application servers integrated with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
The Test Environment Manager will collaborate with project managers, operations professionals, test managers, and senior technical engineering managers to sequence projects for testing on a limited number of test environments. This role also includes line management of 2-3 Logistics and Commissioning Engineers.
Responsibilities cover the entire product lifecycle from solution concept through development, testing, implementation, and operational support. Key duties include defining and owning the test environment strategy, integrating with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and automated deployments, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The role involves working closely with IT and Infrastructure teams to future-proof test environments through cloud adoption, virtualization, and containerization strategies such as Kubernetes and Docker. The manager will implement predictive demand planning, capacity management, and maintain environment utilization dashboards for senior stakeholders.
As a strategic leader, the Test Environment Manager will lead a team focused on transitioning from reactive support to proactive environment engineering, mentoring team members, and managing performance, career development, and succession planning.
General duties include compliance with Cubic's Quality Management System, Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies, Human Resources procedures, and security policies.
Experience
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-application test environments in mid-to-large organizations.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps principles, and automated environment provisioning.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics, Splunk, Grafana, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization, or virtualized infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage competing priorities, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong communication skills for networking with specialists outside direct area of expertise.

Qualifications
- Typically a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience.
