About the Role

As a University Intern within the Environment Health & Safety (EHS) team at the Pirbright site, you will be part of a supportive and talented cohort starting September 2026. You will gain real-world experience contributing to EHS initiatives, supported by your team, manager, and HR, while developing both technical and personal skills through various learning opportunities.
The EHS team at Pirbright works collaboratively across the site and occasionally with the UK and Ireland region to ensure safe working practices, health protection, environmental stewardship, and compliance with legislation and corporate standards. This role offers a dynamic environment with opportunities to develop skills in environmental management, safety programmes, audits, incident investigation, and sustainability initiatives.
Key responsibilities include supporting environmental management programmes such as waste and trade effluent management, assisting the Be Green team with green behaviour initiatives, supporting sustainability goals like zero waste to landfill and water stewardship, conducting EHS inspections and audits, participating in safety programmes and incident investigations, supporting biosafety campaigns and training, and promoting wellbeing activities across the UK and Ireland.
Experience
Applicants should be studying for a BSc in Environmental Sciences, Environment and Sustainability, Safety, Health and Environment Management, Occupational Safety and Health Management, or a similar degree. Experience with Microsoft Office is essential, with the ability to adapt to local systems and technology. Experience writing risk assessments or running events/campaigns is desirable but not required.

You must have strong verbal and written communication skills, able to express ideas clearly and write engagingly without unnecessary jargon. You should be highly motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team, follow instructions, and adapt to changing priorities. Strong organisational skills, time management, and the ability to set clear objectives are essential. A professional approach that aligns with company values and compliance requirements is expected. You must have the ability to travel independently to work and other sites and have the right to work in the UK.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 A levels at ABB grade, with at least one science subject included. Currently enrolled in a relevant BSc degree programme as specified above.
