About the Role
Fisheries Management Scotland is seeking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious individual to support our members in efforts to conserve and restore wild Atlantic salmon. This exciting role, funded by Crown Estate Scotland, will support Scotland’s District Salmon Fishery Boards, the River Tweed Commission, and Rivers and Fisheries Trusts to secure a future for wild Atlantic salmon, sea trout, freshwater fish, and their habitats. The successful candidate will engage with Scottish Government, Agencies, and the Scottish Parliament to support delivery of key strategies and policies including the Wild Salmon Strategy, Biodiversity Strategy, River Basin Management Planning, the Riverwoods Blueprint Project, and the roll out of reformed agricultural payments. In parallel with work on Nature Finance, a key responsibility will be to assist members in developing high-quality applications to relevant funds to support aquatic environment restoration projects benefiting wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout. This includes supporting projects and actions identified in Fisheries Management Plans completed in March 2025.
Experience
- Proven planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and a track record of successful delivery
- Strong understanding of policy development and advocacy
- Excellent negotiating, written, and oral presentation skills
- Proven project management and data analytical skills
- Highly developed communication and collaborative skills with experience building relationships across a wide variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of stakeholders across public, private, charitable, and academic sectors
- Well-developed IT skills including MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
About you
- Willingness to travel across Scotland
- Access to a motor vehicle and a full driving licence
- A good understanding of the fisheries management sector in Scotland would be an advantage
