About the Role
Mott MacDonald, one of the largest employee-owned companies globally, is seeking a Graduate Arboriculturist to join their expanding Arboriculture team. You will support the delivery of arboriculture services across a diverse range of infrastructure projects, from small bespoke design commissions to some of the UK's and worldwide's most significant infrastructure developments. The role offers genuine collaboration and innovation within a multi-disciplinary environment team, working alongside landscape, ecology, environmental management, heritage, designers, project managers, and engineers to ensure tree protection and retention are core to the design process.
Key responsibilities include conducting BS5837:2012 surveys, delivering technical notes, arboricultural method statements, scoping assessments, health and safety surveys, and reports. You will also assist with tree climbing for bats and protected species surveys, provide advice on statutory designations such as TPO, CA, ASNW, perform veteran tree assessments, supervise contractors on site, and design bespoke tree protection measures.
Major projects include HS2, East West Rail, Ash Dieback disease assessment using AI, National Highways road projects, Environment Agency flood alleviation schemes, numerous water companies, Network Rail, and various Local Authorities. Experience
Less than 12 months relevant experience (excluding placements). Experience within the arboricultural sector is desirable for candidates with related environmental degrees.
About you
Ambitious, self-motivated, and driven with a genuine passion for arboriculture and the environment. You should be methodical in problem solving, able to work independently with initiative, and thrive in a collaborative environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail are essential. A full driving licence is required.
Qualifications
A degree obtained no earlier than 2023 in Arboriculture, Forestry, or a related environmental discipline such as ecology or environmental management. Demonstrable experience or interest in arboriculture through relevant modules or previous work is expected.
Desirable qualifications and memberships include:
- Student or Associate membership of the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters or willingness to work towards professional membership
- Familiarity with BS5837:2012 and BS3998:2010
- CS 38 – Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue certification
- QTRA certification
