Our Environmental and Sustainability Services (ESS) team, comprising over 100 professionals across 18 UK offices, is expanding and seeks a Senior Associate to provide technical leadership in Water Resource Planning – Environment.
The water sector is central to our heritage, collaborating closely with UK water and sewerage companies. We lead in water resource planning and environmental assessment, supporting clients with Water Resource Management Plans (WRMP), Drought Management Plans (DMP), and Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMP). This role will lead environmental technical delivery on major water resource projects, driving innovation and sustainable outcomes.
You will lead environmental and sustainability teams delivering Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Natural Capital Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments. You will engage strategically with clients and stakeholders, contribute to business development, and ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with our business and environmental management systems.

Experience
- Experience in strategic water planning including Water Resource Management Plans, Regional Water Resource Plans, Drought Plans, and Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (essential)
- Experience leading environmental assessments for the water sector or other sectors (desirable)
- Significant experience in one or more of the following: Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Natural Capital Assessment (NCA)

- Proven ability to lead diverse multi-disciplinary teams to produce high-quality environmental and sustainability deliverables
- Experience working in client-facing roles with strong relationship-building and stakeholder influence skills
- Well organised with strong planning and management skills, capable of managing budgets and programmes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Creative problem solver with a focus on continual improvement
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical subject (essential)
- Master's degree in a relevant subject (desirable)
- Chartered status with a professional institution (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA) or equivalent (desirable)
