About the Role
Afonydd Cymru is seeking an experienced, fluent Welsh-speaking Advocacy and Communications Manager to join our team as we continue to identify a greater range of pressures on our rivers. The successful applicant will play a major role in increasing awareness of Welsh river issues, influencing decision-makers, engaging stakeholders, and driving positive environmental change. We offer flexibility to shape this role depending on the candidate’s expertise, but we welcome someone with experience across the water sector and rivers, alongside strong knowledge of the legislative and policy landscape in Wales.

The role prioritises expertise in advocacy, communications, and writing skills, with knowledge of the water sector and its policies being highly beneficial. You will support the team on a range of advocacy areas including land management, the water industry, nature-based solutions, and climate change. You will also lead communications related to advocacy work, including writing press releases and conducting media interviews.

This role involves supporting the CEO in delivering Afonydd Cymru communications and working within an open team structure where every member supports others to ensure continuous and fluid delivery of work activities. The successful candidate must be a team player able to work within this model.

This position offers substantial opportunity to drive change by working with Welsh Government officials, politicians, regulators, community groups, and land managers across a wide range of areas. The post holder will work with some independence, making appropriate judgements to ensure delivery of Afonydd Cymru’s strategic aims, effectively represent regional rivers trusts, and enhance our recognised position as a technical lead for rivers in Wales.

About You
