About the Role
Grosvenor Farms Limited (GFL) is one of the UK’s leading dairy and arable farms, operating on principles of regenerative agriculture and circular farming to produce high-quality foods and renewable energy sustainably. Located on Grosvenor’s Eaton Estate, Cheshire, GFL produces over 34 million litres of fresh milk annually and supplies major retailers. Grosvenor Green Gas (GGG), a new initiative, will produce National Grid-ready biomethane from recycled agricultural waste, supplying renewable gas to heat approximately 6,000 homes annually and enhancing the UK’s energy resilience.
We are seeking an experienced Anaerobic Digestion Plant Manager to lead the safe, compliant, and high-performing operation of our biomethane-to-grid facility in Cheshire. This key site leadership role involves ensuring reliable biomethane production that meets grid specifications while upholding rigorous standards for safety, environmental stewardship, governance, and asset performance.
As the Responsible Site Lead, you will provide clear operational leadership, recruit and develop a skilled, safety-focused team, and ensure the facility meets its commercial objectives while maintaining full compliance with statutory and internal governance requirements. You will also support Grosvenor’s wider sustainability and net zero ambitions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full accountability for day-to-day running of a new anaerobic digestion plant currently in construction
- Recruiting, managing, and developing a best-in-class Operations Team
- Ensuring safe transition from construction to commissioning and operational phases
- Maintaining full regulatory compliance with the Environment Agency and other external parties
- Acting as main point of contact for compliance and communications with technology providers, gas network operators, and service providers
- Optimising plant performance and biomethane yield while ensuring injection meets all standards and codes
- Promoting a continuous improvement mindset and professional development within the team
- Coordinating with farming and feedstock teams to ensure quality and quantity of feedstock and accurate feeding plans
- Managing the asset’s P&L and profitability
- Participating in operational duties and attending out-of-hours alarms as required
- Performing other duties as necessary
Experience
- Proven operational leadership managing a large anaerobic digestion plant
- Strong knowledge of anaerobic digestion biology and process optimisation
- Understanding of high-pressure gas systems
- Working knowledge of UK gas safety requirements, environmental permitting, and health and safety legislation
- Experience working within formal governance, audit, and reporting frameworks
- Ability to lead, develop, and motivate a multidisciplinary operational team
- Relevant technical qualification or equivalent operational experience in anaerobic digestion, gas, or process engineering

Qualifications
- Desirable qualifications include experience with biomethane grid injection and working with gas network operators
- Experience working with estate or institutional asset owners
- Knowledge of biomethane support schemes and compliance reporting
- Agricultural or land-based operational experience is advantageous
- Degree, HNC or HND in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline preferred
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification desirable
- BOAS, WAMITAB, or other relevant industry certifications advantageous
