About the Role
If you’re the sort of person who sees a garden and thinks about what it could become, read on. We’re not just looking for someone who likes being outdoors. We want someone who is curious about plants, takes pride in their surroundings and wants to understand what makes a landscape flourish. Someone who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and appreciates that the best gardens are made with patience, skill and care. Gardening, at its best, is about rather more than cutting grass and planting flowers. It’s understanding the seasons, working with nature and knowing how a little knowledge, a lot of effort and a good eye can transform an outdoor space.
At Lord Wandsworth College group, there’s plenty of opportunity to discover just that. With 1,200 acres of Hampshire countryside, our gardens, grounds and wider estate are a big part of what makes LWC such a special place. From carefully tended gardens to the wider landscape, there’s always something to maintain, improve or bring to life.
Working alongside our experienced Grounds & Gardens team, you’ll combine hands-on experience with formal apprenticeship training, learning the practical skills and horticultural knowledge needed to build a career in the industry. No two days need be quite the same, and you’ll see the results of your work in a place enjoyed by pupils, staff, visitors and families every day.
You don’t need to know everything already. What matters is enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn. You’ll need to be happy working outdoors in all weathers, enjoy working as part of a team and take satisfaction in a job well done.
In return, you’ll join a friendly, hardworking team, learn from people who know their craft and help care for an estate that offers a pretty special place to start your career. If you’re ready to get your boots muddy and your horticultural career growing, we’d love to hear from you.
