About the Role
After more than 30 years delivering safe, reliable solutions to the rail sector, Lanes Group has been awarded the Vegetation Maintenance contract for the Transport for London (TfL) network, strengthening our commitment to maintaining a safe and accessible rail environment for millions of passengers. We are seeking experienced Tree Climbers to join our team working on vegetation management projects. This is a hands-on role involving tree works in a rail environment, requiring safe climbing and rigging techniques alongside strict adherence to railway safety standards. You will carry out climbing, aerial cutting, rigging, and tree dismantling in line with rail standards, deliver vegetation clearance, tree felling, and maintenance along the railway, and work safely within the TfL environment following all Rule Book and Sentinel requirements. The role also involves operating and maintaining climbing and chainsaw equipment to legal and rail standards, completing daily risk assessments, inspections, and safety briefings, supporting ground operations including rope work and timber processing, and working flexibly including nights, weekends, and during rail possessions. Experience
- Proven experience as a Tree Climber/Arborist, ideally within the rail industry.
About you
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a rail environment.
- Flexible to work nights, weekends, and during rail possessions.
- Full UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Qualifications
- NPTC/LANTRA qualifications including:
- Chainsaw maintenance & cross cutting (CS30/201)
- Felling small trees (CS31/202)
- Aerial tree rescue (CS38/206 & 306)
- Aerial cutting with a chainsaw using free-fall techniques (CS39/308)
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) / Sentinel card – essential.
- Additional desirable qualifications (training provided if not held):
- MEWP (IPAF)
- Woodchipper
- Brush cutter/strimmer
- First Aid +F (Forestry)
