About the Role
Working for Westland Environmental Safety (WES), a specialist asbestos consultancy, you will join a highly qualified team providing asbestos surveying, testing, air monitoring, and consultancy services across the UK. This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience both on customer sites and in the laboratory, supporting projects including schools, historic buildings, and social housing.
As an Asbestos Surveyor & Analyst Apprentice, you will learn to inspect buildings for potential asbestos-containing materials, safely collect samples, use specialist microscopes to identify asbestos fibres, and carry out air monitoring. You will work alongside experienced professionals, receiving structured training to develop practical and technical skills needed to achieve recognised industry qualifications.
The role includes accompanying surveyors on site visits, assisting with asbestos surveys, recording detailed information, developing laboratory skills, operating air sampling equipment, and following strict health and safety procedures. You will also gain experience in fibre counting and Four-Stage Clearance activities, ensuring accurate and compliant results.
This apprenticeship lasts 12 months and combines day-to-day work with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro, including online sessions, in-person training, and workplace mentoring. You will spend at least 6 hours per week on off-the-job training, working towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures.
The programme prepares you for a career as an asbestos site technician and offers opportunities for professional recognition such as Registered Science Technician (RSciTech). You will develop skills highly valued in a regulated and essential industry, with potential to specialise and progress within asbestos surveying, air monitoring, and related technical roles.
