About the Role
We have an exciting vacancy for an Assistant Conservation Adviser to join our Conservation team. This role focuses on managing and enhancing our local environment across nearly 3,000 hectares of land, including sites ranging from small pumping stations to large treatment works, reservoirs, and farmland. Our Conservation team manages over 290 hectares of SSSI and more than 900 hectares designated as Local Wildlife or Geological Sites. You will be empowered to contribute ideas, work collaboratively in a high-performing team, and make a genuine impact while receiving active support for your professional development.
Day to day, you will support the delivery of conservation land management by scheduling habitat management works, procuring and overseeing contractors and ecological consultants, and assisting with data collation, GIS mapping, and document management. You will also help undertake surveys, prescribe management actions, and implement monitoring to conserve habitats and species of biodiversity, geological, or heritage importance. The role involves liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders including volunteers and community groups.
Experience
At least two years of relevant experience in conservation, ecology, or the environmental sector. Demonstrable experience supporting nature conservation, ecology, or environmental projects. Experience in ecological surveying with botanical and habitat identification skills sufficient to identify common habitats. Knowledge of UK ecology, habitat management, conservation issues, and policy. Experience using GIS software.
About you
Highly motivated by nature conservation with a positive, pragmatic, and forward-thinking approach. Able to work well both independently in the field and collaboratively across teams. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on your own initiative to achieve goals in a dynamic environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive, lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Good IT skills including proficiency with MS Office and MS 365. A full UK driving licence is essential due to travel requirements across rural areas.
Qualifications
A degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related field is desired but not essential depending on experience.
