About the Role
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-leading public health university committed to improving health and health equity globally. We are seeking an Associate Professor to join the Planetary Health Group within the Department of Population Health. The successful candidate will lead world-class research focused on interventions and policy actions to reduce the impacts of climate change and other environmental harms, while identifying and measuring health co-benefits achievable through pathways such as improved diets, increased active travel, and switching to clean energy sources. This role includes academic leadership responsibilities, securing grants from major research funders, publishing high-quality research, developing and delivering MSc programmes, and contributing to the management of LSHTM’s interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change and Planetary Health. Current projects include the Pathfinder Initiative, the DESTINY project on evidence synthesis for planetary health, and the Sustainable and Healthy Food Systems programme in Southern Africa. The post is fixed-term until 31 December 2028, funded by LSHTM, and available from 01 January 2026. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year pro rata, plus discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service.
Experience
Proven expertise in assessing health impacts of climate change and/or co-benefits of climate adaptation and mitigation actions. Demonstrated ability to lead research projects, secure funding from major research bodies, and publish at the highest academic standards.

You are an academic leader passionate about planetary health and climate change, with strong communication and collaboration skills. You are committed to advancing interdisciplinary research and education, and to enhancing the global standing of LSHTM in this critical field.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in a relevant discipline is essential. Experience in developing and delivering MSc programmes and contributing to interdisciplinary centres is highly desirable.
