Our Development Planning team is seeking an Associate Transport Planner to join our growing integrated Development team in Edinburgh. The role involves working on a range of projects including commercial, retail, and residential developments, Local Development Framework Representations, developing transport strategies, and supporting Expert Witness evidence.

We support private sector clients with taking development proposals through the planning process and assist public sector clients with developing transport and parking strategies, business cases, and scheme development. The team works closely with Highways, Services, Structures, and Environmental teams to lead larger multi-disciplinary development proposals.

You will lead the day-to-day technical transport planning input into development planning projects, alongside performing project management and leadership roles where appropriate. This includes mentoring Early Career Professionals to assist in project delivery, leading transport planning input into small to medium scale projects, and collaborating with senior colleagues on complex multi-disciplinary projects.

Additionally, you will further develop your commercial skills and grow your professional network to support business development opportunities.

Requirements

Experience
- Leading technical work on Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, access strategy work, parking strategies, sustainable transport and active travel provision
- Working with guidance such as NPPF, DfT Transport Assessment guidelines, Manual for Streets
- Preparing traffic flow information for Transport Assessments and Environmental Statements
- Setting up and running junction capacity modelling software such as Junctions 10 and Linsig, including understanding inputs, outputs, and scenario testing
- Project management on small to medium scale projects including budget planning, resource planning, and invoicing
- Carrying out and/or supervising conceptual junction design (priority, roundabout, signals)
- Using day-to-day software packages such as Excel and Word

About you
- Good communication skills and confidence to lead discussions with clients, project teams, co-professionals, and other stakeholders
- Ability to share knowledge and mentor Early Career Professional colleagues
- Growing professional network of co-professionals and clients
- Experienced Engineer/Transport Planner with significant hands-on postgraduate experience
- Ideally pursuing or holding chartered status in a transport-related discipline

Qualifications
Chartered status in a transport-related discipline is desirable or in progress. A strong technical background and relevant postgraduate experience are essential.
