About the Role
Sheffield City Council is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Biodiversity Officer to join our Ecology Service. Sheffield is home to a wide range of treasured green and blue spaces across diverse landscapes, many managed by the Council. We are committed to addressing the nature and climate emergencies through a holistic approach that maximises opportunities for nature recovery both internally and with our partners. The Ecology Service provides expert ecological advice to internal departments such as Planning, Capital Delivery Service, and Property Maintenance and Repairs, ensuring compliance with ecological legislation and our Biodiversity Duty. The Service also manages the Biological Record Centre, coordinates the Sheffield Local Wildlife Site Partnership, and collaborates with partners on project development and delivery. This role involves assessing, reducing, mitigating, and compensating for the impacts of development on wildlife, advising on best practice land management, species protection, and recovery. The successful candidate will be highly organised, able to multitask, and work effectively with colleagues, sub-contractors, and external stakeholders to support nature recovery and biodiversity initiatives across the city.
