Hybrid – Mostly home working with occasional travel across Scotland.

Part-time, 3 days per week.
Salary
£50,000 per annum pro-rated to 3 days per week.
About the Role
Bright Green Nature (BGN) is a growing Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation dedicated to community and small-scale nature restoration and youth empowerment through environmental action. Established in 2022, BGN works across the Scottish Borders to restore degraded nature, enhance biodiversity, and inspire the next generation of land stewards through innovative projects and youth programmes. We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our operations, strengthen partnerships, and shape the future growth of the organisation.
The CEO will provide strategic and operational leadership, managing day-to-day activities, overseeing project delivery, leading fundraising and financial management, and supporting staff, volunteers, and young participants. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the CEO will ensure good governance, financial sustainability, and measurable ecological and social impact. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone passionate about nature recovery, community engagement, and youth development, looking to contribute to a fast-paced and rapidly growing environmental charity.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and implementation of the charity’s strategic plan and annual priorities.
- Ensure governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements are met.
- Prepare reports, budgets, and impact data for the Board, funders, and partners.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and respect.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, risk management, safeguarding, and Health and Safety.
- Manage and support staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Maintain robust finance, monitoring, and evaluation systems.
- Lead human resources including recruitment and policy development.
- Lead income generation through grants, partnerships, donations, and contracts.
- Manage budgets, financial planning, and funder reporting.
- Build relationships with funders, donors, partners, and community supporters.
- Oversee delivery of nature restoration and rewilding projects with community participation.
- Ensure projects achieve strong ecological and social outcomes.
- Develop new project ideas aligned with the charity’s mission.
- Coordinate and expand youth environmental training and employability programmes.
- Foster inclusive community involvement.
- Act as spokesperson and ambassador for the charity.
- Represent BGN nationally and internationally.
- Oversee external communications including website, newsletters, and social media.
- Promote the charity’s mission, impact, and stories through events and outreach.
Experience
- Senior level experience in charities or community-focused organisations.
- Experience in strategic planning and vision setting.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing budgets in the voluntary sector is desirable.
- Experience working with young people or delivering skills/employability programmes is desirable.
- Experience in partnership working and community co-design.
- Experience in digital communications, media, or advocacy is advantageous.

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in nature-related subjects, ecology, youth work, or community development is desirable.
- Understanding of community rewilding and habitat restoration in Scotland.
- Understanding of social impact measurement and reporting.
- Commitment to safeguarding and equal opportunities.
