About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as a Consultant Ecologist and help shape the future of the environment. You will work across a diverse portfolio of ecology projects, including large infrastructure developments in energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, as well as smaller local projects. The role offers opportunities to apply innovative survey techniques for species and habitat surveys, data capture, reporting, project management, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain mentoring. You will be involved in organising and conducting desk studies and field surveys, analysing and interpreting ecological data, supporting Ecological Impact Assessments, and designing mitigation strategies. Additionally, you may act as an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects. Experience
- Experience working in ecology-related roles within the public and/or private sectors
- Designing, coordinating, and leading field surveys
- Knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy, especially relevant to Wales
- Experience with Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) processes
- Botanical identification skills, including Phase 1 Habitat and NVC surveys
- Experience with protected species surveys, preferably bats or dormouse
- Ability to adapt and work flexibly to meet peak demands, including occasional unsociable hours and working away from home

- Strong report writing skills with experience producing ecological reports and providing advice to clients and stakeholders

Qualifications
- Relevant academic qualifications or equivalent experience in ecology or environmental science
- Species licence holders or experience in impact assessment, habitat creation, ecosystem restoration, and management are advantageous
- Willingness to engage in continuous professional development through training and mentoring
