About the Role
Are you a passionate Ecologist looking to elevate your career? Join APEM’s rapidly growing team and contribute to expanding our terrestrial ecology services across the North-West of England to the North Midlands. You will work alongside experts in terrestrial and aquatic sciences on diverse projects across the UK, collaborating with environmental and conservation agencies, water and energy industries, and other sectors. This role offers the opportunity to specialise in terrestrial ecology while working alongside professionals in fisheries science, hydrology, hydro/geomorphology, and water quality.

As a key member of the team, you will work closely with Senior and Principal Ecologists to deliver excellent ecological services. Your responsibilities will include conducting terrestrial ecology site work and supporting the production of comprehensive reports through data processing, analysis, and interpretation. This role offers a hybrid working environment combined with fieldwork and client interaction, providing a varied and engaging work experience.

Requirements

Experience
- Degree or postgraduate degree in a relevant subject with a strong academic record.
- Botanical identification skills including UK Habitat and condition assessments and/or Phase 1 Habitat surveys.
- Experience writing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and/or protected species survey reports.
- Experience conducting protected species surveys (e.g. dormice, bats, great crested newts, otter, water vole, birds).
- Sound knowledge and practical application of UK environmental and wildlife legislation.
- Full UK driving licence with ability to travel across northern and central England and Wales, including occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications
Relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in ecology or related discipline. Additional professional training or certifications in ecological survey techniques and environmental legislation are advantageous but not essential.
