Role Overview
The Energy & Sustainability Manager will lead the delivery of environmentally sustainable solutions and compliance across a national facilities management contract. This strategic role involves aligning industry standards and best practices with client aspirations to create tailored, innovative solutions that deliver utility and environmental improvements. You will identify, evaluate, negotiate, and conclude high-impact energy and environmental initiatives, playing a senior role in enhancing EMCOR UK's Carbon Transformation products and services.
This dynamic position includes supporting new product development and advancing energy solutions such as alternative energy options, renewable and sustainable energy resources, energy conservation, and asset optimisation within the built environment. Strong leadership skills are essential to connect with key clients and deliver their environmental aspirations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and deliver energy and sustainability strategies aligned with client drivers and contract solutions.
- Produce and manage the Carbon/Net Zero Transition Plan to reduce consumption and emissions.
- Develop a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan incorporating industry best practices and accreditations.
- Deliver Building and BMS optimisation solutions within EMCOR UK's Carbon Transformation and Asset Dynamics frameworks.
- Own the Energy Bureau solution including billing, validation, forecasting, reporting, benchmarking, and payment.
- Conduct annual performance reviews of the estate against environmental plans and building specifications.
- Drive efficiencies to meet and exceed client targets.
- Develop energy and sustainability reporting including monitoring & targeting, trend analysis, and specialist software utilisation.
- Integrate reduction solutions within asset lifecycle management to capture carbon and energy considerations.
- Prepare and present credible performance reports highlighting consumption trends, data insights, and progress.
- Optimise operating efficiency of assets, systems, and subsystems.
- Develop site-specific carbon reduction pathways with quantified net zero opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with key client stakeholders and EMCOR UK teams.
- Translate strategies and plans into actionable projects meeting client and internal objectives.
- Manage capital investment programming.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of emerging technologies, processes, and legislation related to energy and environmental agendas.
- Promote broader energy and environmental sustainability awareness focusing on waste avoidance and consumption reduction.
- Ensure compliance with management systems (ISO 14001 & 50001), including audits and accreditation support.
- Manage technical programmes involving subcontractors, consultants, and staff.
- Support small works, revenue, and capital project delivery through project scoping and option evaluation.
Experience
- Proven track record in cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders, supply chain partners, and customers.
- Demonstrable competence in Energy Management within complex, asset-rich environments.
- Experience in energy markets, contract negotiations, renewable energy development, and generation technologies.
- Technical expertise in implementing energy solutions.
- Experience developing and negotiating energy and sustainability partnerships, including green funding options.
- Ability to evaluate new business models, policies, and agreements related to energy, cleantech, or sustainability.
- Experience working with industry stakeholders such as utilities, global energy companies, and OEMs.
- Proficiency with energy industry software/IT tools and cloud enablement.
- Experience informing businesses about energy management and sustainability best practices.
- IT literate with skills in Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Smartsheets, and Visio.
- Experience within the FM industry at a senior operational level is desirable.
- Knowledge of customer operations, business drivers, financials, legislative requirements, and specialist information sources.
- Understanding of EMS & EnMS requirements is desirable.

Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Building Services, Energy Engineering, or equivalent experience/qualifications.
- Understanding of HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting operation principles.
- Operational knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and control theory.
- Competency in benchmarking techniques and statistical analysis.
- Ability to prepare fully costed energy efficiency proposals and reports.
- Capability to build business cases for new techniques, solutions, or technologies.
