WSP have an excellent new role for an Engineer, Senior or Principal Sustainability Consultant to support the delivery of sustainable building solutions on high profile projects, as part of a growing national team.

The Building Performance team primarily supports the UK business in terms of Zero Carbon and wider sustainability advice within the Built Environment. The team plays a central role in Property & Buildings multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating all WSP disciplines towards the delivery of Zero Carbon designs. While the team works on single building projects, it also provides sustainability and energy master planning advice for both urban and semi-rural developments, as well as BREEAM, LEED, WELL and NABERS consulting services.

We have experience of a comprehensive range of building types including commercial offices, residential, education, healthcare and retail and are looking to grow our capacity and capability through further recruitment.

Responsibilities include supporting the UK Properties & Buildings business delivering sustainability and Net Zero strategies, WELL, LEED, Ska Certifications, Lifecycle Assessment and Circular Economy advice. You will develop sustainability strategies for a diverse portfolio, independently manage your own projects and lead sustainability certifications.

Key duties:
- Detailed understanding of Building Services
- Understand and support Client’s brief in matters of sustainability and wellbeing aspirations
- Prepare Sustainability, Whole Life Carbon and Circular Economy Statements for developments to complement planning submissions, coordinating sustainability contributions from multiple design team stakeholders
- Prepare high quality reports that clearly and concisely communicate issues and conclusions
- Understand and apply current and proposed UK sustainability-related legislation to project solutions at all governance levels

Experience
- Understanding and experience in Net Zero, Low Carbon Design and materials
- Experience as a sustainability consultant, leading sustainability assessments
- Proven track record of driving design teams to maximise sustainability including sound assessment skills and delivering multiple certifications
- Knowledge of the construction process and implications of sustainable design
- Proven champion of sustainability who has led and encouraged behavioural change
- Driver of innovation and best practice with clear communication of benefits to colleagues and clients
- Bid support experience with business and commercial acumen
- Understanding of BREEAM and other environmental assessment methodologies
- Understanding of thermal modelling and low carbon energy strategies
- Understanding of current UK planning policies related to sustainability and Net Zero targets
- Experience delivering Whole Life Carbon assessments
- Ability to coordinate and provide training to junior consultants
- Must be able to obtain UK Security Check (SC) vetting level

About you
Effective communicator with clients both inside and outside the business, strong presentation skills and excellent time management. Motivated to lead sustainability initiatives and work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications
- Degree in engineering, environmental, architectural or sustainability related subject
- Membership of a related professional institution and on the path to or already Chartered (engineer, scientist or environmentalist)
