About the Role
Join the Environment Agency’s water industry regulation teams and play a vital role in combating environmental crime. You will regulate one of the nine water companies operating nationally, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and holding operators accountable for their impact on the environment. Your work will include preventing pollution, regulating sewage treatment works and storm overflows, and enforcing environmental law across the sewerage network.

As an Environment Officer, you will be part of a frontline team focused on building a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment. Your responsibilities include planning and carrying out compliance activities, taking enforcement action when necessary, and preparing evidence for legal proceedings in serious cases.

This role offers continuous learning through a structured development programme, starting at EOA grade with progression to EOB grade typically within 18 months. Initial training includes residential classroom sessions and field visits with experienced officers, covering regulatory legislation, environmental science, and practical enforcement skills. Some travel and overnight stays will be required.

You will work from a designated office base but must be flexible to support teams in other locations and adapt to changing priorities. All necessary training, equipment, and clothing will be provided to ensure your safety.

Benefits include a generous pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, standby and incident response payments, flexible working options, two paid environmental outcome days per year for volunteering, and extensive career development opportunities.
