Hours
Full Time - Standard local government hours with flexibility and time off in lieu for essential work outside normal office hours

Salary
Grade 9 £39,862 – £42,839 per annum + £3,000 golden hello payment per annum for the first two years

This is more than just an enforcement role; it’s an opportunity to use your expertise to resolve complex statutory nuisance issues, regulate Environmental Permitting, and shape local planning, directly improving the quality of life for our 110,000+ residents.

You will manage a varied and challenging caseload, empowered to take ownership of complex environmental issues and supported by a dedicated, collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead frontline investigations including service complaints and scheduled inspections related to noise, drainage, contaminated land, and statutory nuisance
- Process applications and variations for Environmental Permitting and provide expert consultation on planning and licensing submissions
- Draft and serve formal notices, prepare legal case files, and represent the council in legal proceedings when necessary
- Act as a trusted advisor to the community, interpreting complex legislation for the public and local businesses and collaborating with external agencies
- Contribute strategically to corporate projects ensuring the Environmental Protection & Community Safety Team meets key service objectives

Requirements

Experience
Essential:
- Proven ability to manage a varied caseload of environmental health issues
- Experience in writing clear, concise reports and working independently without constant supervision

Desirable:
- Experience across all aspects of Environmental Protection
- Experience inspecting and regulating installations under Environmental Permitting Regulations
- Noise Diploma or similar qualification

Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health
- EHORB Registered
- Full UK Driving Licence and ownership of an acceptable means of mobility throughout the Borough
