About the Role
Stanbroke is a reputable family-owned and operated Australian cattle and beef business with operations across Northern and Southern Queensland, including cattle properties, feedlots, a fully accredited beef processing facility, and global marketing capabilities. We produce a full range of Grain and Grass-fed beef categories and export to over 40 countries worldwide.
We are seeking an Environmental Officer to join our processing plant team in Grantham. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our abattoir remains compliant with its Environmental Authority. This hands-on, site-based role focuses on monitoring, sampling, record-keeping, and reporting.
You will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, farming, and plant management teams to manage environmental risk, prevent pollution, and improve operational practices. Key duties include conducting inspections required under the Environmental Authority, maintaining audit-ready records, preparing annual environmental reports, and acting as the site contact for environmental regulators.
Daily responsibilities include monitoring wastewater and leachate ponds, sampling the human wastewater treatment plant, preventing pond overflows, and managing irrigation, stormwater, and trade waste. Fieldwork involves collecting soil and groundwater samples, monitoring soil moisture, and recording irrigation volumes and crop yields.
You will oversee paunch and compost operations, record waste volumes, ensure correct waste disposal, and support pest control efforts. Beyond compliance, you will track water, power, gas, and waste data to identify efficiency opportunities such as water recycling and biogas.
In the event of spills or leaks, you will respond promptly, notify regulators within required timeframes, and contribute to investigations and corrective actions. Additionally, you will assist in developing environmental management plans and procedures, train staff, provide environmental input on new projects, and develop and run an environmental auditing and inspection program.
Join Stanbroke to make a real environmental impact within a highly respected Australian beef producer and exporter, enjoy a supportive professional environment, and take on a challenging leadership role with competitive remuneration and staff benefits.

Familiarity with environmental incident notification and reporting obligations.
About you
Accuracy in fieldwork and record-keeping, with the ability to analyse data, report on trends, and write clear, concise reports for regulators, auditors, and management.
Strong communication skills to engage effectively with staff, regulators, and community members.
Ability to train and coach others.
Capable of working independently, managing competing priorities, staying calm during incidents, handling complaints fairly, and bringing practical, cost-effective ideas to the table.
