About the Role
Building a sustainable tomorrow, BAM UK & Ireland offers an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Sustainability Business Partner reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Director. This leadership-level role focuses on supporting the Transport Sector to develop and drive sustainability within their core strategic functions. You will connect operational strategy to the UK&I enabling service, being accountable for UK&I led strategic actions alongside priorities within operational units. The role involves planning and managing environmental sustainability resources based on ongoing business and industry needs, focusing on continuous improvement and upskilling of internal stakeholders. You will provide a high-quality, consistent service delivering client excellence, supporting work winning, influencing and sharing best practices with customers and industry partners, monitoring performance and reporting progress, showcasing BAM’s commitment to creating a sustainable tomorrow.

You will be a key member of the Environmental Sustainability Senior Leadership Team (SLT), helping to shape and develop the service proposition, supporting team growth and championing a culture of continual improvement. You will lead and support a team of Environmental Sustainability specialists covering whole-life carbon, BREEAM, nature and adaptation, ensuring talent, skills and capability meet segment and contractual requirements aligned with defined career pathways.

The role requires developing an understanding of client and market trends to maintain BAM’s competitive edge, working closely with Key Client Account leads to understand client sustainability needs and deliver on expectations. You will lead strategic work winning and tender activities, collaborate on bid collateral development, and bring innovative ideas to support a consistent and compelling business message.

Collaboratively, you will set environmental sustainability operational targets with leadership teams, regularly review performance, and advise on improvement opportunities. You will coordinate industry insights, policy and legislation to ensure BAM remains aligned with or ahead of industry trends. Monitoring team resourcing, capacity and capability to meet client requirements is essential, with resource flexibility to support business needs including development of accessible shared resources.

Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and facilitation of business engagement will build trusting relationships, ensuring alignment and reducing duplication of effort. You will develop team capability through webinars, workshops, training events and ongoing training programmes. As a champion of best practice, you will seek opportunities to promote and drive innovation across the segment’s project and service lifecycle.

Requirements

Experience
Proven leadership experience within similar organisations (private and/or public sector). Strong technical knowledge across Environmental Sustainability with emphasis on whole-life carbon, nature and resilience. Extensive knowledge of key clients and assets within transport including Transport Authorities (TfL), Network Rail, and major rail projects such as HS2, Crossrail, EastWest Rail. Experience managing multiple dispersed teams, preferably in a matrix organisation. Demonstrated ability to work with and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally. Significant experience in successful bidding and work-winning environments. Strong influencing, networking, and profile-raising capabilities within the sector.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in environmental sustainability or related fields are desirable but not explicitly stated. Emphasis is placed on proven experience, leadership capability, and technical knowledge.
