About the Role
Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for precision? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where your skills make a real impact? We are seeking practical, detail-oriented individuals to join our dynamic team in Cambridge as a Senior Technician in our cutting-edge Environmental Laboratories. These laboratories specialise in materials testing under challenging environments—including hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen, and other aggressive conditions. Your contributions will directly support innovative projects that push the boundaries of engineering and sustainability.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with Project Engineers and fellow technicians to deliver bespoke materials testing, working with challenging environments under varying pressures and temperatures to simulate real-world conditions, and applying your engineering expertise to assemble machinery, solve practical problems, and ensure high-quality results.
This role may require regular travel both within the UK and abroad. Security clearance such as BPSS and DBS may be required.
Experience
A solid foundation in mechanical engineering and experience with machinery assembly and hands-on problem solving. Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team.
About you
Detail-oriented, practical, and collaborative. Enthusiastic about precision and innovation. Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus skills include knowledge of gas chromatography, instrumentation and materials testing machines, data logging and analysis using Excel, materials testing using servo hydraulic machines, and pressure testing. However, full training is provided, and passion and potential are valued over a perfect CV.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are mandatory for this position, but relevant mechanical engineering background or equivalent experience is preferred.
