As an ETP Chemist, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality of effluent from the site by controlling and optimising the effluent treatment and gas cleaning processes. After completing training and induction, you will be fully familiar with the site storage philosophy and provide technical chemical advice to Shift Managers and Emergency Services.

Your duties will include sampling and analysing aqueous effluent and other site waters according to company procedures, monitoring cooling tower water quality and chemical dosing, performing routine checks on the ETP plant and processes, and reporting any defects or issues to the Shift Manager. You will ensure compliance with legislative requirements, company safety, quality, and environmental objectives, and all EPR permit and COMAH safety report conditions.

Additional responsibilities include regular monitoring and calibration of gas cleaning plant pH probes with first line maintenance, maximising substitution rates of virgin chemicals with paying waste, maintaining site housekeeping standards, reporting incidents and injuries, liaising with Emergency Services during incidents, analysing waste skips and bulk tanks prior to processing, and undertaking compatibility testing when required.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in chemical analysis and process monitoring is preferred but not explicitly required. A strong commitment to environmental and occupational health and safety management systems is essential.

Qualifications
Recognised qualification in Chemistry with a good understanding of Analytical Chemistry.
FLT licence (training can be provided).
IOSH Managing Safely qualification is desirable.
