About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Gardener to join our Newmarket team to deliver the day-to-day care of the grounds and gardens managed by Jockey Club Estates (JCE), maintaining high presentation standards. This role includes a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the areas across JCE and contribute to the delivery of projects.
The Gardener will assist the grounds team in all aspects of grounds and garden maintenance across multiple sites. Responsibilities include lawn care such as mowing, strimming, irrigation, aeration, scarifying and fertiliser treatments. You will undertake all aspects of continued plant and shrub care including planting, watering, feeding, pruning of flower beds, baskets, containers, formal hedging, shrubs and trees. You will assist with preparing and replanting seasonal bedding displays to the best horticultural practices.
Safe operation of a variety of horticultural machines and equipment such as hedge cutters, strimmers, and ride-on mowers is essential. Routine maintenance duties include litter collection, weeding, leaf clearing and sweeping. You will also assist with pest control by identifying and treating pests and diseases that affect plants. You will be fully equipped with working PPE and ensure appropriate manual handling processes are followed.

Experience
Experience of routine grounds maintenance including lawn care, planting, pruning, and pest control. Experience operating horticultural machinery such as hedge cutters, strimmers, ride-on mowers and basic tractor-drawn equipment. Basic tractor driving experience and machinery operation. PA1 & PA6 qualification and experience in regular spraying is required.
Knowledge of raising plants and associated glasshouse activities is desirable.
About you
Ability to work under pressure to continually deliver high standards. Good knowledge of plant care including planting, deadheading, watering, feeding and pruning. Understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace. A full driving licence is essential.

Qualifications
PA1 & PA6 spraying qualifications are required. Other relevant horticultural qualifications or experience will be advantageous.
