About the Role
As a Gardener Volunteer, you'll help create and maintain welcoming outdoor spaces that support the health, wellbeing, and recovery of the people who access Aquarius services. Your work will ensure our gardens remain safe, attractive, and accessible, providing calming environments where individuals, families, and young people can connect, learn, and take part in activities. Working alongside our teams, you'll assist with the upkeep of garden areas and may have the opportunity to support gardening projects and wellbeing activities with the people who use our services. This is a rewarding opportunity to share your gardening skills while making a positive difference in your local community.
Key duties include helping maintain and care for gardens and outdoor spaces across Aquarius sites, preparing and maintaining garden areas to ensure they are safe, tidy, and welcoming, supporting the delivery of gardening activities, projects, and seasonal events, carrying out basic gardening tasks such as planting, weeding, pruning, and general maintenance, ensuring gardening tools and equipment are kept clean, safe, and in good working order, encouraging a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone using the garden spaces, supporting adults and young people to participate in gardening and outdoor wellbeing activities where appropriate, acting as a positive ambassador for Aquarius by promoting our values and commitment to recovery and wellbeing, and attending induction, training, and supervision sessions to develop your knowledge and volunteering experience.
Experience
An interest in gardening with practical gardening knowledge or experience is desirable but not essential.
About you
You should be friendly, approachable, and non-judgemental with good organisational skills and a reliable approach to volunteering. Effective communication and the ability to work well as part of a team are important. You will understand the importance of confidentiality and maintaining professional boundaries. A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, treating everyone with dignity and respect, is essential. You should have the confidence to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance and support, and a willingness to learn, attend training, and contribute positively to the Aquarius team.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for this volunteer role, only a passion for gardening and a positive attitude.
