About the Role
The Gardener will support the Head Of Grounds Maintenance & Horticulture (HOGM&H) and the Grounds Supervisor to ensure that the Wellcome Genome Campus grounds are maintained to a high horticultural standard. This role is integral to the ongoing development and improvement of the Campus, aligned with the agreed business strategy. Key duties include undertaking a full range of grounds maintenance and gardening tasks as instructed by management, performing formative and regenerative pruning of trees and shrubs, planting and managing annual bedding including irrigation, and conducting pest and disease control using integrated pest management techniques. Additional responsibilities include cutting, strimming and edging grassed areas, managing bank and roof vegetation, blowing and jet washing hard surfaces, cutting hedges, and general grounds management tasks such as litter picking, gritting, and clearing snow. All tasks must be conducted in line with Campus health and safety policies and risk assessments. The Gardener will also report any external site defects and carry out basic maintenance of equipment, reporting major faults to the line manager.
Experience
Experience in grounds maintenance and horticulture is desirable to perform the full range of duties to a high standard.

You will be diligent, reliable, and able to take instruction well. A strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining high horticultural standards are essential. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to health and safety. Flexibility to undertake a variety of grounds maintenance tasks and respond to changing priorities is important.
Qualifications
Relevant horticultural qualifications or certifications are advantageous but not essential. A willingness to learn and develop skills on the job is required.
