About the Role
The Environment Agency is seeking experienced geomorphologists to join us in protecting and enhancing the environment by harnessing natural physical processes. As a Geomorphology Technical Specialist, you will be a technical leader within an area-based team, working alongside biodiversity and fisheries staff and liaising with teams involved in river and coastal maintenance, planning, permitting, and flood risk management. Your role will involve providing expert advice on geomorphic processes and contributing to practical projects such as river restoration, Natural Flood Management, Environmental Land Management, and the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Capital programme.

You will also support environmental protection through regulation by advising on permits, planning applications, and operational work, including site visits with colleagues and the public. Effective communication of geomorphological science to colleagues, non-specialists, and the public is essential to guide decisions that improve the environment and manage flood risk in ways that work with nature.

As a technical leader, you will manage complex technical work, set priorities, support strategic decisions in a fast-paced, agile environment, and coach and mentor other team members to enhance their geomorphological knowledge.

This role includes an incident response responsibility, requiring availability to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, with full training and potential additional payment.

Joining the Environment Agency means becoming part of the largest and most vibrant community of geomorphologists in the country, offering excellent networking, training, and knowledge exchange opportunities to support your ongoing development.

About you
- Strong understanding of geomorphic processes and landforms

- Supports others through mentoring or coaching
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Willingness to undertake an incident role and respond to emergencies
- Holds a driving licence or willing to obtain one for site visits
