About the Role
As a recent graduate, you will support sustainability initiatives across the OCU Group, assisting with data collection and analysis to ensure projects comply with environmental legislation, client requirements, and our Sustainability Strategy. Reporting to the Head of Sustainability & Environment, this entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your career within the utilities sector while promoting sustainable construction practices.
Your duties will include assisting in the implementation of sustainability initiatives such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and social value; preparing sustainability reports and ensuring compliance with frameworks like TCFD and CDP; tracking and analysing key sustainability metrics including carbon footprint, energy usage, waste reduction, and water consumption; supporting compliance with certifications such as ISO14001 and EcoVadis; developing guidance and processes to improve environmental management; conducting research on sustainable construction methods and technologies; monitoring environmental performance on project sites; organising sustainability awareness programmes and training; and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into business processes.
This role also involves assisting with environmental audits, supporting pre-construction teams with sustainability obligations, maintaining accurate records, and sharing best practices across the business. You will be part of a committed team driving sustainability and innovation within the utilities and energy transition sectors.
Experience
Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Environmental Engineering, or related field. Graduate IEMA membership preferred. Basic understanding of sustainability principles, ESG practices, and environmental legislation including ISO14001. Familiarity with sustainability practices within the utilities or construction sector is advantageous.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and present findings clearly. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying sustainability messages to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams. Innovative mindset with the ability to propose sustainability solutions. Willingness and ability to travel within the UK as required. Valid driving licence essential.
Qualifications
Degree in a relevant environmental or sustainability discipline. Graduate IEMA membership is preferred but not essential.
