About the Role
As a recent graduate, you will support sustainability initiatives across the OCU Group by assisting with data collection and analysis, ensuring projects comply with environmental legislation, client requirements, and the company’s Sustainability Strategy. Reporting to the Head of Sustainability & Environment, this entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your career within the utilities sector while promoting sustainable construction practices.
Your duties will include assisting in the implementation of sustainability initiatives such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and social value; preparing sustainability reports and ensuring compliance with frameworks like TCFD and CDP; tracking and analysing key sustainability metrics including carbon footprint, energy usage, waste reduction, and water consumption; supporting compliance with certifications such as ISO14001, EcoVadis, and CDP; developing guidance and processes to improve environmental management; conducting research on sustainable construction methods and technologies; monitoring environmental performance on project sites; organising sustainability awareness programmes and training; collaborating with cross-functional teams; supporting pre-construction and work-winning teams with environmental obligations; maintaining accurate sustainability records; and assisting with environmental audits and assessments.
This role requires a proactive approach to staying updated with industry trends and regulatory requirements, as well as the ability to communicate sustainability messages effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience
- Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Graduate IEMA membership preferred.
- Basic understanding of sustainability principles and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) practices.
- Familiarity with environmental and sustainability practices within the utilities or construction sector.
- Basic knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and ISO14001.
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to identify trends and present findings clearly.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to identify sustainability challenges and propose innovative solutions.
- Ability to travel within the UK as required and hold a valid driving licence.
