About the Role
As part of a new Green Spaces and Sustainability Service, Bridgend County Borough Council is seeking a Green Spaces Service Manager to oversee and manage the strategic development and operational delivery of the Council’s Green Spaces Service. This role involves the ongoing development and sustainability of all service area functions and teams, including Green Spaces operations, Urban and Rural Grass Cutting, Public Realm Improvement, Cemeteries and Burials, and Asset Management and Development. The service aims to provide a visible, responsive, and proactive approach focused on improving the appearance and day-to-day condition of neighbourhoods, town centres, and community spaces across the county borough. You will lead a practical, highly visible “can-do” function, demonstrating the council’s commitment to maintaining, enhancing, and investing in its places.

Experience
Proven experience in managing and delivering green spaces or similar public realm services is essential. Experience in strategic development and operational management within local government or a related sector is highly desirable.

About you
You will be a motivated and visible leader with a practical approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality services. You must be able to work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders to enhance community spaces. A valid driving licence is required for this post. You will also be expected to comply with the council’s Hybrid Working Policy, balancing work between home and office as appropriate. Protecting children, young people, or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in environmental management, horticulture, or a related discipline are desirable but not mandatory. A Health Surveillance assessment through the council’s Occupational Health Service is a requirement for this post.
