Hours
Monday to Friday. Shift pattern to be confirmed. When attending CETC training, you will work 40 hours per week. Onsite working hours range from 39 to 55 hours per week depending on age.

About the Role
Join a market-leading civil engineering and groundworks company as an apprentice in their groundworks division. You will receive fully funded training through CETC, the Civil Engineering Training Centre at South Hampshire College Group. The apprenticeship lasts 1 year and 6 months, starting with an 8-week pre-apprenticeship at CETC. The first 4 weeks involve attending the training centre to gain your CSCS card, a Brickwork Level 1 Certificate, and Health & Safety training to become site-ready. The remaining 4 weeks are paid on-site sponsorship to prepare you for the full apprenticeship and employment contract with Ward & Burke.

As an apprentice groundworker, your duties will include clearing and tidying construction sites, digging trenches for foundations, setting up sites with barriers and safety signs, providing evacuation support, interpreting drawings and specifications, laying pavements, kerbs and driveways, removing drainage and pipework systems, operating plant machinery such as excavators and dumper trucks, preparing ground and foundations for construction, and redirecting waterways and connecting pipes.

Training is delivered by South Hampshire College Group on a block release basis at CETC campus in Lee on Solent, Hampshire. After an initial 12-week block of Monday to Friday attendance, you will mainly work onsite and attend CETC one day per month. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Preferably holds a driving licence to travel to various sites and training locations. You must be able to travel to Lee on Solent CETC training centre for block weeks of learning. A train station is close to Fareham College main campus with a courtesy shuttle bus available to CETC centre.
