About the Role
Oceana is seeking a talented and motivated Campaign Officer to join our team at a critical and exciting moment for marine conservation campaigns. You will support the Campaign Manager to deliver measurable progress ensuring the UK’s marine protected areas are fully safeguarded from heavy industry such as industrial bottom trawling and dredging. Your focus will also include delivering campaign actions aimed at ending overfishing once and for all. This role will help Oceana strengthen its position as a leading marine NGO in the UK and drive bold campaign actions that inspire meaningful and long-lasting change.

As a self-starter, you will work independently and collaboratively within a small team. Responsibilities include coordinating campaign actions within the Habitats and Overfishing campaigns, drafting campaign letters, assets and briefings, commissioning consultants for creative outputs, and supporting digital campaign development through platforms like Engaging Networks. You will also coordinate stakeholder engagement, organise meetings and events, support public affairs activities including parliamentary liaison, monitor political developments, and maintain accurate records.

You will gather evidence and insights to support lobbying and public mobilisation, work closely with the UK Communications team to align campaign communications with Oceana’s brand and goals, represent Oceana externally in networks and media, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and annual campaign planning. Other campaign and administrative tasks will be required to support the campaigns team and organisational objectives.

Requirements

Experience
At least two years of professional experience in campaigning or a related field. Proven experience supporting successful public campaigns that challenge policymakers. Familiarity with UK marine and climate issues, regulations, policies, and key institutions. Experience working with or coordinating NGO networks or coalitions on campaign issues.

About you
Strong written communication skills including drafting briefings, correspondence, and campaign materials. Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesise complex information and identify key insights. Understanding of UK parliamentary and political processes. Confident communicator able to engage a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills. Strong coordination skills with experience managing multiple workstreams and priorities. Commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles in the environmental sector. Integrity and discretion in handling confidential information. Passionate about UK seas and delivering a healthy ocean.

Qualifications
Degree-level qualification in any subject or equivalent experience is desirable but not essential. Demonstrated interest in campaigning, public affairs, communications, advocacy, or environmental issues is advantageous.
