About the Role
The Compleat Food Group (TCFG) is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead and oversee HSE performance across a defined category of sites. This senior management role provides expert guidance on safety, health, and environmental matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and driving continuous improvement. Reporting to the HSE Director, the Head of HSE will lead a small direct team and influence over 12+ indirect reports across multiple sites. The role will involve travel between sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category-wide HSE strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee HSE performance using key metrics (BMI) to identify and drive improvements.
- Monitor risks and hazards across sites, advising on mitigation and elimination strategies.
- Ensure legal compliance and provide expert guidance on regulatory requirements.
- Lead the implementation of the OSHE Management System and supporting frameworks.
- Design and implement internal audits, manage external audit programmes (VAMP, SMETA, Insurance).
- Review incidents and Safety Alerts to share lessons learned across the business.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development to HSE teams, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Support the HSE Director in executing the TCFG HSE strategy across the category.
- Act as deputy for the HSE Director and contribute to central HSE leadership initiatives.
- Oversee EL/PL claims, HSE budgets, and planning of initiatives and forums, including the HSE Awards.
- Ensure adherence to programmes including Safety Excellence, Human Factors, Governance, and Security Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Level 6 Health & Safety qualification; Level 6/7 preferred.
Knowledge of BS ISO 45001, 14001, and 50001 standards.
Environmental experience or qualification desirable.
Experience
9+ years in Health, Safety & Environment, ideally within multi-site operations.
Strong leadership experience with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with operational experience and willingness to travel between sites.
