About the Role
The Compleat Food Group (TCFG) is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead and oversee HSE performance across a defined category of sites. This senior management role provides expert guidance on safety, health, and environmental matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and driving continuous improvement. Reporting to the HSE Director, the Head of HSE will lead a small direct team and influence over 12+ indirect reports across multiple sites. The role involves travel between sites as required.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing a category-wide HSE strategy aligned with business objectives; overseeing HSE performance using key metrics to identify and drive improvements; monitoring risks and hazards and advising on mitigation strategies; ensuring legal compliance and providing expert guidance on regulatory requirements; leading the implementation of the OSHE Management System and supporting frameworks; designing and implementing internal audits and managing external audit programmes (VAMP, SMETA, Insurance); reviewing incidents and Safety Alerts to share lessons learned; providing leadership, coaching, and development to HSE teams to foster a strong safety culture; supporting the HSE Director in executing the TCFG HSE strategy; acting as deputy for the HSE Director and contributing to central HSE leadership initiatives; overseeing EL/PL claims, HSE budgets, and planning initiatives and forums including the HSE Awards; and ensuring adherence to programmes including Safety Excellence, Human Factors, Governance, and Security Management.

Qualifications
Minimum Level 6 Health & Safety qualification required; Level 6/7 preferred. Knowledge of BS ISO 45001, 14001, and 50001 standards essential. Environmental experience or qualification is desirable.

Experience
At least 9 years’ experience in Health, Safety & Environment, ideally within multi-site operations. Strong leadership experience with the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Proven strategic thinker with operational experience. Willingness to travel nationally between sites.
