About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and ambitious Head of People & Operations to join Avon Needs Trees from January 2026. This senior leadership, multidisciplinary role requires project management expertise, operational skills, and experience in human resources. As a great people person with a solutions-focused attitude, you will help lead ANT through a period of exponential growth and business transformation.

Avon Needs Trees is a fast-growing organisation that began in 2019 with four volunteers and has since expanded to a staff team of twenty-six, over 1,000 volunteers, and ownership of 600 acres of land dedicated to growing woodlands of over 160,000 trees.

Main responsibilities include working as part of the Senior Leadership Team on organisational strategy, project development, and workforce planning; line-managing project managers and governance and operations staff to ensure strong support and impactful projects; leading key operational areas such as HR, recruitment, staff wellbeing, safeguarding, health & safety, cyber security, and operational finance; monitoring and reporting on operations; developing policies and processes; ensuring staff and volunteers are trained and aware of their responsibilities; and promoting project management best practices across the organisation.

You will also lead or contribute to new projects and initiatives, including a potential Round 2 Landscape Recovery project (subject to funding), and act as a strong advocate for ANT’s projects and their environmental benefits. Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing climate change and helping nature recover by overseeing and enhancing both our people and projects, enabling the planting of hundreds of thousands of trees and the enhancement of complementary habitats. Additionally, you will have management oversight of our woodland site and potentially a Lower Chew Landscape Recovery project managing thousands of acres of local land in harmony with nature.

Experience
- Proven senior leadership experience in multidisciplinary roles involving project management, operations, and human resources.
- Experience managing teams and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organisational and strategic planning skills.
- Familiarity with HR functions including recruitment, staff wellbeing, safeguarding, and compliance.
- Knowledge of health & safety, cyber security, operational finance, and policy development.
- Experience in environmental or conservation sectors is desirable but not essential.
