About the Role
As the Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Business Partner at The Riverside Group, you will champion health, safety, and environmental standards across the organisation. You will ensure HSE risks are effectively managed to protect our people, customers, and homes. This critical role supports the Group's ambition to create safe, sustainable environments by delivering safety within a strategic risk area and promoting responsible, sustainable practices.
You will provide strategic oversight of HSE governance, audit, and assurance, embedding robust frameworks to safeguard compliance and drive continuous improvement. Acting as the HSE support to colleagues at all levels, you will ensure the Safety-First philosophy is adopted throughout the Group and support Accountable Risk Leads (ARLs) in delivering their risk frameworks.
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive HSE audits and assurance reviews, leading major incident investigations, monitoring performance data, and supporting the embedding of environmental, sustainability, and health & safety requirements in line with ISO standards. You will build effective relationships across the organisation, provide expert advice, and contribute to strategic safety improvement plans.
This role reports directly to the HSE Lead and works across designated risk areas to develop and implement HSE strategies, policies, and procedures, ensuring the Group meets its legal obligations and maintains the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience in HSE governance, audit, and assurance within a large, dispersed organisation
- Lead Auditing Qualification and substantial experience conducting HSE audits and assurance reviews
- Major incident investigation experience
- Proven ability to analyse and report on HSE performance to governance bodies, driving accountability and continuous improvement
- Experience conducting high-quality investigations and implementing control measures
- Proven experience influencing senior leaders to take ownership of risks
- Experience conducting risk assessments and maintaining risk registers with knowledge of risk management processes
- Effective report writing and presentation skills

Qualifications
- Lead Auditing Qualification (essential)
- Level 5/6 HSE qualification (desirable)
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation (desirable)
- Understanding of relevant legislation and government regulations pertaining to HSE in housing (desirable)
- Experience supporting or leading external assurance processes including ISO accreditation audits (desirable)
- Evidence of continued professional development (desirable)
- Understanding of social housing context and governance frameworks (desirable)
