Hours
Minimum 14 hours per week, up to 35 hours per week – Casual role. Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00, Weekend working 08:00 – 12:00. Weekend, bank holiday and seasonal working required to meet livestock management and animal welfare needs.
Salary
£16.64 - £18.43 per hour plus 12.07% holiday pay
About the Role
Do you enjoy working with livestock and making a direct contribution to nature conservation? Join our Grazing and Grasslands Team as a Casual Herdsperson, supporting the care of Epping Forest's English Longhorn cattle. Working under the direction of the Conservation Herd Manager, you will assist with the day-to-day management of an autumn-calving suckler herd across Epping Forest and its Complementary Lands. Your duties will include livestock welfare, grazing site preparation, infrastructure checks, winter housing management, and calving support. This role is workplace based and offers the opportunity to contribute to conservation grazing that benefits wildlife, landscapes and people across Epping Forest.
Experience
Experience of livestock handling and animal husbandry is essential. Knowledge of animal welfare and safe livestock management is required. Tractor driving experience or qualifications are desirable.
About you
You will be able to work independently, outdoors and as part of a team. A full UK driving licence is required. You should be committed to maintaining high standards of livestock husbandry and animal welfare, and able to undertake physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not mandatory, relevant experience and a full UK driving licence are essential. Tractor driving qualifications are advantageous.
