About the Role
The Horticulture Support Assistant is a hands-on role supporting the Horticulture team in the care, presentation and day-to-day maintenance of the gardens, planting and outdoor spaces across Petersham Nurseries. The role focuses on helping to keep the site looking beautiful, healthy and well cared for throughout the seasons. Key responsibilities include supporting with general gardening tasks such as plant care, watering, feeding, pruning, deadheading and tidying horticultural areas. You will assist with seasonal planting, displays and horticultural projects, as well as moving plants, pots, compost, tools and materials safely around the site. Maintaining garden areas, pathways and workspaces to ensure they are tidy, safe and well presented is essential.

In addition to core horticultural duties, the role provides occasional practical support across the wider site, particularly where horticulture overlaps with deliveries, events, installations, maintenance and the movement of stock or equipment. This includes assisting with receipt and movement of plant and site deliveries, event set-up involving outdoor spaces, and supporting the Maintenance team with straightforward practical tasks. Safe working practices, including manual handling and correct use of tools and equipment, are essential to this role.

Experience
Gardening or horticultural experience is preferable but not essential as full training and development will be provided to support your progression within the team.

About you
You should have a genuine interest in plants and outdoor spaces, a practical attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn. The ability to work well within a team and support a variety of tasks across the site is important.

A full driving licence is essential, along with the ability to drive large vans safely.
