About the Role
Join HB Public Law, one of London’s leading shared legal practices, providing innovative and ambitious legal services across four local authorities. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a varied and rewarding caseload within the Criminal Litigation and Regulatory Team, advising on matters that directly impact local communities.

As a Criminal Litigation Lawyer, you will manage your own caseload and provide practical, solution-focused advice on a wide range of criminal litigation matters including fraud, fly-tipping, licensing, planning enforcement prosecutions, environmental crime, trading standards, and regulatory prosecutions.

You will work closely with officers and senior managers across client authorities and have opportunities to undertake advocacy. Senior Lawyers will also support and mentor junior colleagues, contribute to training initiatives, and help develop best practice across the team.

This role offers exposure to a breadth of work rarely available within a single organisation, allowing you to develop a wide range of expertise and gain experience of complex and challenging cases. HB Public Law is committed to supporting your professional development within a supportive, friendly, and highly experienced team.

Additional benefits include membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, excellent learning and development opportunities, cycle scheme, green car benefit scheme, Civil Service Sports Council membership, staff discounts, and wellbeing support initiatives.

Requirements

Experience
Applications are welcome from newly qualified lawyers with a determination to learn as well as those with litigation experience. Experience in any type of litigation work (criminal, commercial, civil, licensing, regulatory) is desirable. Experience working in local government, private practice, central government, or other relevant environments is valued.

Experience managing your own caseload and providing practical, proportionate, and risk-based legal advice is essential. Advocacy experience and the ability to advise on regulatory and fraud offences, licensing matters, anti-social behaviour, community tensions, and policy advice on regulatory matters are important.

About you
You will be motivated, collaborative, and committed to delivering high-quality legal services. Strong communication and excellent client care skills are essential. You must be comfortable prioritising competing demands and working effectively both independently and as part of a team. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and develop, and the ability to forge excellent working relationships with colleagues and clients are key.

You will report to the Assistant Principal Lawyer or Principal Lawyer and be expected to work from the Harrow office at least one to two days per week, with flexibility for court and client meetings.

Qualifications
You must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) with litigation practising rights, or soon to qualify. Relevant training or pupillage experience is welcomed for newly qualified candidates.
